Lake Marion is the largest lake in South Carolina, covering over 110,000 acres with a maximum depth of 76 feet. It is located in the central part of the state, with parts of the lake stretching into five counties: Berkeley, Calhoun, Clarendon, Orangeburg, and Sumter. The lake was created in the 1940s as part of a hydroelectric project, and today it is a popular destination for boating, fishing, camping, and other recreational activities.
